Spanish News Headlines

The price of second-hand housing in Spain has risen 0.6% in January compared to December, but 7.5% in its interannual variation. Thus, this price stands at 2,215 euro per m2, according to data from the Fotocasa Real Estate Index. This latest year-on-year value (7.5%) is 1.5 percentage points less than in January 2023 (9%).

The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, will appear before the Plenary Session of the Congress of Deputies today to report on the measures and actions of the Executive in response to the spill of ‘pellets’ that appeared on the Galician coast in the last two months.

The Minister of Health, Mónica García, has closed the Spanish Summit against Cancer, organised by the Spanish Group of Cancer Patients, and announced the creation of the Cancer Surveillance System, which will make it possible to harmonise the information currently available, coordinate cancer surveillance at the level of all the autonomous communities and, have quality information on cancer to improve research and evaluation of control and prevention programs.

The Vice-President of the Government and Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, and the Councillor for Climate Action of the Generalitat de Catalunya, David Mascort, met in Barcelona to coordinate the work between both administrations that address the situation of emergency due to drought in Catalonia. Regarding emergency measures, the Government will make available desalinated water from Sagunto, Valencia, which will be transported by boat to the city of Barcelona. It will make it possible to have desalinated water of up to 40,000 m3 per day starting in June, which will be determined according to need.

Road wise, there´s nothing significant planned but remember that if you are venturing into the mountain areas, which in some cases might be less than an hour from the sunny coast, snow chains should be a consideration to avoid getting stranded.
